Shades of Grey

they never promise - a happy ever after
bits of nostalgia, whispers, cries and laughter
it's bluish strokes across obsession's canvas,
it's blossoming advance has passed us
the magical became fanatic, frantic
the latter transgressed to being boring, static
monotonous nostalgia is dusting it in the attic
no longer art, but science, mathematic:
a fact acknowledged - one, event forgotten - zero
relaxed, we never had the fear of
taking the effort to see beyond the smiling hearts
we took the consequences, we took the poison darts
that follow us forever and to whatever end...

I wonder whether risk is noble, and whether I am sober
when these fragile allegiances are made
and if we're shades of grey, then questions trade
which one of us is truly royal? who's loyal?
who's predator? and who is prey?
I pray, one day, this madness goes away...

and then I watch myself release the dice onto the table...
