               Сегодня – день рождения Лонни Донегана.

               Энтони Джеймс «Лонни» Донеган (1931-2002) – британский
               музыкант, один из популярнейших исполнителей 50-х – нача-
               ла 60-х годов, известный как «король скиффла» – жанра, ко-
               торый он развил и популяризировал. В 2000 году за вклад в
               развитие британской музыкальной культуры Лонни Донеган
               был награждён Орденом Британской империи.

               Творчество Лонни Донегана оказало огромное влияние на
               ранних «The Beatles», «The Rolling Stones» и многих других
               британских исполнителей разных поколений. Среди тех, кто
               называл его в числе основных влияний, были Джон Леннон,
               Марк Нопфлер («Dire Straits»), Эрик Клэптон, Пит Тауншенд
               («The Who»), Ван Моррисон и другие.

               Британский журнал «Classic Rock» включил Донегана в спи-
               сок величайших гитаристов всех времен.

in which the British came off rather ignominiously means
they never done no good no how alright shuddup right

Well in 1814, we took a little trip,
along with Colonel Packenham down the mighty Mississipp.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans,
and we fought the bloomin British in the town of New Orleans
