Breaking Dawn

You’re breaking the dawn
Before it breaks free,
You’re breaking a smile
That’s easy to see.
Like dew on a lawn,
Like wheat in a field
We’re soon to be gone,
We’re meant to be reeled.
I’ll stagger and sway
Until I am out.
You’ll then be away
Beyond any doubt.
I’ll find the bed empty,
The air will feel thin,
The pain will be hefty,
The pain for the win.
I’ll scream till I’m mute,
My breath won’t suffice.
One endless pursuit,
No useful advice.
Those miles flashing by
As if in a dream.
I wish I could fly,
I wish I were him
Who made you return
And make the things right.
My insides will burn,
My skin will feel tight.
The streetlamps will blur
In one fluid curve.
Then it will occur
That I don’t deserve
An ending that’s happy
With both you and me.
When things are left scrappy,
There’s nothing to be.
So I’ll race on forward,
Regardless of signs.
The fall won’t be awkward
Once everything dies.
