The last words of the apprentice

Pretend, that I was just a figment

                of your grand imagination,

That I was never really here

for you to laugh, for you to judge.

You know, I’ll never be as brilliant,

                as your desire and expectation,

But I have no regrets, no fear...

                I’ll disappear, without a grudge.

~

And you - will never ever find me,

but then again, you won’t be looking.

Like me, there are a dime a dozen,

you will forget, you will move on.

Still, it was you who first defined me,

                when I was just a wet-nosed rookie,

Through your attention and your sarcasm.

                I thank you!...as I carry on.
