Princes of yesterday
They get their mortgage, invest in stocks,
They go on vacations, away from rains,
Grow portly, complacent, yet bitch and mock,
And run to a doctor if something hurts
(It's still in your left side. For now. For life),
The past may be shady, but nothing's lost,
They settle with their forgiving wives.
A child, like a foreigner, sadly grows,
A household's cemented with smug deceit.
And princes escape on a drunken prowl,
But always come back - and, for all to see,
No need for redemption, with crimes erased,
"Forgive and forget", - though unasked, they chide.
What happens to princes of yesterday?
And what do they read during sleepless nights?
