Be My God

Where shade and lonely night
Blackened what once was light,
And screams dissolved into silence.
Reckless hope for the sun
Hid the stones inside,
And life smouldered low in the candles.

They turned a blind eye to light
Beyond the trembling hills;
It arose human souls to madness.
They prayed their gods for burn,
Never have reached to feel —
And gods made the hate out of weakness.

Be my god, flash of the burn
Above rust that covered the throne
Be my god, but never deceive
'cause you know what I can believe
'cause you see what my sorrow is
Fire's alive in my cherished dreams
Be my god, while I can forgive

As if the sky were overturned
In one relentless flood,
Heaven ground to grain for starving rage.
Something fell upon the earth,
Fainted red with blood,
Along the path where burning idols prayed.

Scorn of night and newborn dawn
In winds from worlds unseen,
Stripping eyelids, scorching breath.
Faith and truth drift far apart —
No turning back in between,
Where life is worth no more than death.
