Мысль, умчи на крыле золочёном !
Опустись на долины и горы,
где все ветры приятны и споры,
воздыхания почвы родной.

О сионские башни и стены !
Иордан – под святым небосклоном. .
О потерянный край наш священный,.
наша память навеки с тобой.

Отчего ты на иве зелёной
замолчавшая арфа пророков ?
Освежи нам журчанье истоков.
Вдохнови на святые дела.

Вторь же, арфа, царю Соломону !
Пусть из жалоб рождается сила,
чтобы Божья нас Воля сплотила
и страданию смысл придала.

Хор рабов из знаменитой оперы Верди «Набукко» повествует о страдании порабощенных евреев. Несмотря на историческую специфику контекста, современники Верди легко угадывали в Эзоповом языке его оперы призыв к освобождению самой Италии от иностранных захватчиков. Верди до сих пор считается (хотя это мнение  разделяется не всеми историками) лирой освободительного движения - Risorgimento.
