The Game

"Time to gather," said the King,
"Find the Rook, my dearest Queen.
Let him fall our forces in
And into the fight them fling!"

***

"Why, why are We," snarled the Queen,
"To run errands all day long
Like if We were but a pawn?
'Tis so cruel and so mean!"

"Hear! Hear!" barked the Rook,
"Pardon me for being straight
But Her Majesty is right -
We shed blood and kings just look!"

"Aye, my Lady!" cried the Knight,
"'Tis disgusting, 'tis a shame!
In the land from whence I came
Kings lead troops with glorious pride!"

"Let's revolt!" the Bishop smiled,
"He claimed that for heart I lack
Ever seeing only black.
Yet I'm sensible and mild!"

***

"Time to move," observed a Pawn,
"Fine, then I can march alone,
Try and win myself the crown
Playing everything-or-none..."
