Towards The Sheltering Sky

(Текст песни)

Источники вдохновения – фильм Бернардо Бертолуччи "Под покровом небес"
("The Sheltering Sky") и послуживший его основой одноименный роман Пола
Боулза.

...Now when the fiery sun is slowly going down,
down the sweltering street of this desolate town,
there is now place to hide, there's one last thing to try -
runaway from that all towards the sheltering sky.

The sand soaks up the tea, and the door tempts the key,
and her face is the only one he wants to see.
There's nothing to say - the words don't touch the ground;
just be able to sense the last chance to turn round.

. . . . . It's so foolish, so awkward, like a bad silly dream -
. . . . . he turns away a second before she turns around to him.
. . . . . There are so many reasons that there's nothing to say -
. . . . . he turns around just a second after she turns away.

It's a sweet treacherous lie that there's something that can't die -
there's nothing eternal beneath the sheltering sky.
Everything will some day be cast down to the ground.
Just be able to grasp the last chance to turn round.

. . . . . A cup of tea or of sand – what would they prefer?..
. . . . . But she turns away a second before he turns around to her.
. . . . . So it's time to cry out, but there's nothing to say -
. . . . . she turns around a second after he passes away.

Towards The Sheltering Sky

...Now when the fiery sun is slowly going down,
down the sweltering street of this desolate town,
there is now place to hide, there's one last thing to try -
runaway from that all towards the sheltering sky.

The sand soaks up the tea, and the door tempts the key,
and her face is the only one he wants to see.
There's nothing to say since the words don't touch ground;
just be able to sense the last chance to turn round.

. . . . . It's so foolish, so awkward, like a bad silly dream
. . . . . 'cause he turns away a second before she turns around to him.
. . . . . There are so many reasons that there's nothing to say -
. . . . . he turns around a second after she turns away.

It's a sweet naive lie that it's never too late to try -
there's nothing eternal beneath the sheltering sky.
Everything will some day be cast down to the ground.
Just be able to grasp the last chance to turn round.

. . . . . A cup of tea or of sand – what would they prefer?..
. . . . . But she turns away a second before he turns around to her.
. . . . . So it's time to cry out, but there's nothing to say -
. . . . . she turns around a second after he turns away.

...И все же этот альтернативный вариант (с небольшими изменениями) стал основным.
