Butterfly days

*

Sometimes from the heart of summer
floats a peerless day, a bubble
that suspends the seasonal
duress of tropic latitudes,
and hang-glides in a pristine sky
above the cool flanks of the river,
contemplating images of trees
on its conveyor-mirror.

*

Azure days that catch the breeze
unfurl and lift the listless leaves,
bring respite from heat's caravans
converging on December.

*

Gifts of planetary cycles
older than the calendar,
aquamarine mornings pulse
and flicker with the work of wings.

*

Microcosmic glimpses
through the windows of eternity,
butterfly days flutter as God's palm
extends, alight and tremble...
