Long black veil

A night so bleak
the rain falls black,
oblique lead-crystal
chains and blades,
icy slivers piercing
flimsy palisades
that shield pale graves.

She haunts the hillside,
long black veil
diaphanous
where stones recline;
a shiver runs
through dreaming spines,
nerves curdled
by the tocsin's whine.

In moonlight's silvery
refrain, she walks abroad,
a soul in pain, avenger
of a love betrayed,
hell's emissary,
the bride of shades;
a tremor stirs the cypress
colonnades, the sexton's
dull bell chimes...

performing the ballad
"Long Black Veil"...

I've selected the only word to express my feelings - "WONDERFUL"
Yours, Ingvar.

Thank you, Ingvar, thank you indeed! It seems, however, that the song you read was left half-sung, so I've extended it...
The Greek-American singer Diamanda Galas's version is a tour de force, and this can only be a faint echo by comparison, but I'm thrilled you like it! :)
