For liberty

Our bodies formed the front line
in the battle-zone for change;
we stormed the barricades:
our mothers cursed us,
while our husbands raged,
and Lysistrata looked on
from her vantage point
in time and space.

Our daughters and our sons
don't understand why we led
troubled lives, and why we were
so frequently betrayed.
How to explain that this was
the incalculable price we paid
for trying to turn back
the tide of gender-driven hate?
