Only the eyes of Love
can tell the difference
between dark and light;
Love's hand releases
birds from cages,
guides the angels' flight;
The heart of the Creator
glows most brightly
in the darkest night,
and is a shield
for every child
who sleeps in fear
or wakes in fright;
for God entrusts
His sacred image
to the soul of every child,
and gives one simple synonym
to every tongue:
the word for Life…

A gate, a fist, a heart unclench,
a flower opening: the world to gain
as recompense for sparing pain...
