The sleeping sun

At night
When the sun
Is too tired
To fly
It slowly
Descends
From the heights
Of the sky.
Somewhere
In the ocean
Once weary and pale,
It closes its eyes
On the back
Of a whale.
And dolphins
Jump out –
For them
It is fun –
They are helping to bear
The sleeping sun.
And sometimes
It happens
Somewhere
On a prairie,
Buffalos
Come to support it
And carry.
And even
In desert
The sun
Finds
Its friends –
It rides
Humpy camels,
It crosses
The sands.
In African jungles
The sun
Can relax,
Through night
It keeps moving
On elephants’ backs.
It rests
Just a while,
Then continues
Its flight,
And breaks
In the morning
The darkness
Of night.
