Athena in attendance at her shrine...

Image on a Greek seal ring

Athena in attendance at her shrine,
devoid of armour, stands in vestal guise,
an archetypal symbol of the wise,
invested with the grace of the divine.
The chrisom she distils from oil and wine
leaves traces in time's veins, solidifies;
becomes a seal, which gifted hands devise
as microcosmic acme of design.

Unrivalled in its elegant geometries,
a city is evoked, the words of Socrates,
the Golden Age we look on as our dawn…
Eleusis shimmers, vernal in its mysteries,
once symbolised in ears of wheat or corn,
as in this gem the goddess is reborn.
