Doppelganger
You or your doppelganger,
Shying me away at daytime,
Stalking me in my dreams.
Your effigy slipping from my mind
The moment I put your picture aside.
Your shade sullenly following me
In my whimsical wanders.
Perhaps you are me?
Connection lost with the abrupt cut
Of our umbilical cord
Made by an impersonal midwife.
Fervently searching for each other since then,
Siamese twins separated at birth,
Blindly stumbling over other people frozen bodies
Piled outside my consciousness.
Groping air in vain hopes,
Peering inquiringly in my face,
Smiling tentatively at me -
Is it lastly you, me, us?
