Woman seriously injured in Hucknall restaurant assault
A man has been arrested after a woman was found with serious injuries at a restaurant.
Officers were called to Bella Mia, in Annesley Road, Hucknall, shortly before 2 am today Sunday 25 February to reports that a woman was being assaulted.
Upon arrival, they found a woman with significant facial injuries. An ambulance was called and she was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. Her injuries are not life-threatening.
A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene of the assault. He was taken into custody and is being questioned on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.
A scene is in place at the restaurant whilst investigation work is carried out.
Detective Sergeant Vincent Clark, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was a serious assault that left the victim with nasty injuries.
“We were quick to arrest in this incident and would like anyone with any information that could aid our officers in their investigation to contact us on 101 quoting incident number 52 of 25 February 2024.”

A popular Italian restaurant in Hucknall has closed.
Bella Mia, on Annesley Road, abruptly closed its doors last week citing 'economic pressures' as the main contributing factor.
The business, which is opposite The National Church of England Academy, was formally The Malt Shovel pub. When that closed in 2011, the property was converted into a restaurant and had become a go to place for Hucknall diners over the last decade.
Speaking to Hucknall Nub News, a spokesperson for the restaurant said: "Due to economic pressures, we are unable to keep the restaurant running so we have had to close our doors as much as it pains us to do so."
Earlier this year, the business was put up for sale with an asking price of ;165,000.
Bella Mia was marketed by Business Agent Ernest Wilson as: "A rare opportunity to acquire a well-established and highly regarded licensed Italian restaurant that is situated in a prominent location on the outskirts of Nottingham."
However, despite this, a buyer could not be found and ultimately this has resulted in the restaurant no longer trading.

A man is due to appear in court after a woman was repeatedly kicked and punched during an assault outside a Hucknall restaurant.
The woman was left unconscious and with serious facial injuries
after the attack
outside
the former Bella Mia restaurant,
now called Vaadi,
in Annesley Road.
It happened during the early hours of Sunday (February 25)
and a cordon was in place at the site as police investigated.
Nottinghamshire Police
now says that
Shaun Roberts,
45,
of Ward Avenue
in Hucknall,
has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Roberts
is due to appear
at Nottingham Magistrates' Court
on Monday (February 26).
Detective Constable
Kerry Stringfellow,
of Nottinghamshire Police,
said:
"I am pleased we have charged a suspect regarding this serious matter,
and I hope it reassures people the force
will take robust action against individuals
who engage in this sort of criminality."
An ambulance
was called to the scene of the incident on Sunday
and the woman
was taken
to the Queen's Medical Centre for treatment.
Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening,
police said at the time.
The incident is unconnected to the restaurant.

A man has been arrested after a woman was found with serious facial injuries at a restaurant in Nottinghamshire.
Officers were called to Vaadi, in Annesley Road, Hucknall,
shortly before 02:00 GMT on Sunday
to a report a woman was being assaulted,
Nottinghamshire Police said.
She was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre,
with her injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
A man, 45, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Police said the assault had "left the victim with nasty injuries".
A cordon is in place at the restaurant while investigation work is carried out.

Pub owner's brutal response after 'rude' family racked up 280 pounds and left staff in tears

A pub owner has hit back at a customer's negative review after a family birthday party ended in a dispute. The Cowshed at Hucknall, based in Nottinghamshire, boasts a high 4.8 star rating on Google, with customers praising their 'amazing' food and 'efficient' service.
However, a woman named Jo had a different experience when she visited for her sister-in-law's 50th birthday in 2020. Jo claimed that her group spent 700 pounds on pizza and drinks, but their celebrations were cut short when staff asked them to leave for being too drunk and rowdy.
She criticised the pub's staff in a Facebook review, saying she had 'never been spoken to in such a way'. "Maybe they should open reviews [on their website]," she said. "Yes, our family member was sick and YES WE CLEANED IT UP - so no members of staff were affected by this."
She added: "Maybe a course for your staff in customer service wouldn't go amiss. Rude staff huffing and puffing because they had a large round to bring out."
The pub, boasting a five-star rating on TripAdvisor, quickly responded to the allegations, the Mirror reported. "Hi Jo, thanks for reaching out. We love feedback, whether it be positive or negative, we especially love feedback like this so others can see the type of people we have to deal with sometimes."

The review did not go unnoticed by the pub's boss who sent back a lengthy response

Firstly, the team argued that Jo hadn't splurged quite as much as she suggested. To have racked up such a cost, she would have had to order 39 top-tier pizzas and 57 of the priciest drinks, it was claimed.
The Cowshed went on: "You ordered nowhere near this, Jo... not even close. What you and your party spent, Jo, was a far more realistic and believable 280 pounds (225 pounds on 5 rounds of drinks and 55 pounds on 8 pizzas).
"You all acted like belligerent, entitled little toddlers from the moment you walked through our gates. At 4:30pm you showed up with the tables you wanted already taken, but not to worry, we shuffled other customers about at your request in order to accommodate you."
"Then you proceeded to pull our light fittings loose off our boundary fence in order to hang your birthday decor. We cleaned up all the smashed pint glasses you broke and birthday cake you dropped and smeared all over our tables and benches, and tolerated the many loud family rows you were having with each other."
The group are also claimed to have treated The Cowshed's staff like "personal servants." It wrote: "Clicking your fingers, shouting, swearing and barking your orders at [staff], to the point one was almost in tears and refused to deal with you any more."
But it didn't stop there. He also claimed the group refused to abide by social distancing rules at the time, during the coronavirus pandemic. - The pub concluded: "Then, for your party's grand finale, the gentleman in the blue shirt headed into our bar from outside and decided to vomit everywhere but the toilet.
"Our staff stepped into to help, but you demanded to 'deal with the situation' and rather than clean up the mess, proceeded to smear it over an even wider area with our mop, whilst... once again, being loud, rude, sticking your hand in our staff's faces and shouting over anybody who was trying to communicate with you or help."
"Don't worry, the staff member that you nearly had in tears earlier on cleaned it up for you. So now consider this your official barring... don't you or your group ever set foot through our doors again."
The restaurant's straightforward response became a hit online after being shared on Facebook. One person commented: "Congratulations Cowshed! You have won the internet today!"
