When speaking of Transylvania, at once we envision blood-thirsty vampire searching the Romania country side for exposed necks and perhaps the legend of Dracula’s blood lust is giving way to legendary Romanian wines. But the other story tells us the Dionysus ,the god of wine, was born in the region of what today is Romania, and perhaps it was his divine presence has contributed to its more than 4000 years of remarkable wines.

Geographically speaking, Romania is ideally suited for wine production.” Romania lies at about the same latitude as the wine region of France”, says Dan Toma of Transylvania Trading Corporation. This is the location that opened door to some spectacular vineyards. The country produces one of the best wines in line with Italy and Austria, and while Romania in some corners of the world is not so well known contender the country is ranked in the top ten of the world producers and is number five in Europe.

Each area and vineyard contributes something different to the country’s stable of wine. Northeast produces aromatic dessert wines. The mountain region in sub-Carpathian hills delivers soft reds like Cabernet and Merlot. TheTarnave, the cooler region produces delightful fruity wines. Romanian wines definitely offering something for every preference. It is all depends on the moment, time of day, and meal. Some foreign grape varieties have been well adapted to the Romanian wine –growing conditions, and such wines as full bodies Prahova Valley are attracting international attention. Numerous Romania varieties producing amazing vintages ,among the dry and semi dry rich and aromatic Romaneasca:sweet-scented fragrant wine cannot be compare to any other wine in the industry!

Sweet, dry, white or pink Romania offerings are gradually turning North American wine aficionado’s heads. Largely thanks to the politics, the wine lovers discovering Romanian blends. During the fifty years of communism era wines mostly flowed to Russian and other Eastern European countries. At the present times Romanian export begun trickling to the rest of the world and the results are thrilling. Not every store carries the Romanian wines, but once discovered by connoisseurs it is shocking the reasonable price on some of the most delicious wines.

The company is currently experiencing the makeover, changing the look of the labels and promotional materials. Most Romanians aren’t particularly fond of Count Dracula, but the company admits that people have fun with it and the company feels that the Dracula theme is a great marketing.
My suggestions for the Halloween party are:
Casillero Diablo by Concho y Toro
Egri Bikaver’s Bulls Blood and of course Vampire wines, if and when available!

Dracula:”This is very old wine. I hope
You will like it”
Renfield:”Aren’t you drinking?”
Dracula:” I never drink ….wine”
