Куда их Розовая рать
Отправится в конце, как знать?
Чтоб походить во всём на них,
Почтительно встречаем их.


Whose Pink career may have a close
Portentous as our own, who knows?
To imitate these Neighbors fleet
In awe and innocence, were meet.


В июне 1877 года Эмили Дикинсон отправила издателю и критику  Томасy Хиггинсону  цветы и письмо, числящееся теперь под арх. номером — L 503.

Оно начиналось словами:

"I hope you are joyful frequently, these beloved Days. And the health of your friend [Mrs.  Higginson] bolder. I remember her with my  Blossoms and wish they were hers."
(Дело в том, что жена Хиггинсона, Мэри, тяжело болела в то время и скончалась тремя месяцами позже 2-го сентября от  болезни легких.)

Затем шло само стихотворение:               

Whose Pink career may have a close
Portentous as our own, who knows?
To imitate these Neighbors fleet
In awe and innocence, were meet.

Далее Эмили продолжaла:

"Summer is so kind I had hoped you might come."

D.Preest: "The poem appears to say that we cannot know whether the ‘Pink’ life of flowers ends as portentously as ours i.e. bound for heaven or hell, but at least we should imitate the ‘innocence’ of these flowers and transfer to other things the ‘awe’ they inspire."
