Talking to the Stars

Павел Самарин
Again, the stars are calling,
She stands here in the night,
One step away from falling,
One step away from flight.

The wind’s trying to scatter
The sand, the stones with scars.
She’s cold, it doesn’t matter,
She’s talking to the stars.

She tells the same old story:
Her love, her man has gone,
He looks for gold and glory
So far away from home.

Hoping to see the white sail,
She peers into the dark,
But sees the only one mail -
The lunar question mark.

And struggling with the distance,
A woman or a ghost,
She hears the stars are whispering:
“You can’t return what’s lost”.

But something she believes in
Is living in her soul,
And it’s the only meaning
To play this cursed role.

One day the stars get silent,
The sea gives up the dead,
He’ll be back to their island,
She’ll talk to him instead.
