I am getting old

Мария Фил-Бор
“I am getting old,”
So Thomas says.
“I’m thick and heavy,
Don’t like cold.
My legs are broken -
That bad fall
From a great height
Onto ground floor.

I roared with pain
And scared cats
In cages suffering around
At hospital, just day and night.
Then operation, pins of steel
Inserted in the legs like bones.
Horrific feeling when no move,
No jump or hop you are allowed.

That’s in the past.
No more I try
To run out of the open door,
Then down the steps
To hide behind the corner
On a dirty floor.

Me and my master as he says,
“We have an understanding”.
Old age is not that bad a thing
For loved cats and cherished cats
With home and comprehending.
