Donkeys and the lion

Глеб Петров 3
Donkeys and wisemen often hold on
For longer than the Lion lives.
Nobody pays attention to them
But are ready to forgive.

One day in fall or perhaps in spring,
Two donkeys trekked on the forest ring.
Lost in chatter, the way seemed short,
But was really far from the roar.
They spoke about this and that,
Gossiped about tit for tat
(So goes this intriguing story).
They wandered into Lion’s territory.
One donkey said:
- It’s not for nothing he’s angry,
After all, his Lioness has gone astray.
The other said:
- I'd killed him with my hooves,
He had better stay away...
The Lion was sitting nearby in the bushes,
And heard all the donkey’s cries.
Before them he did angrily arise:
I’ll not forgive you for your lies,
You’ve gone too far, I’ll have your hide.
The friends did not bat a lash,
Addressing the Lion in a flash:
- You, the king of beasts, now listen to nonsense?
After all, we are donkeys and always say stupid comments.
You should really laugh at our drive
And they managed to get out alive.
The donkeys left, the Lion lost in thought,
And soon in a net, he was caught.
Whatever he said, whatever his whims,
The hunter did not spare him.
For a long time in this domain,
Nobody has seen his dreadful mane.
And word has it that those donkeys are still alive until this day.
