Near the iron fence chrysanthemums have flourished;
A chrysanthemum denotes love and sadness.
They are livened by the sun and swayed by breezes,
Are with gentle earth’s saps-fluids satiated.
Still they weep in the moonlight at quiet nighttime
Petal-tears of theirs being sadly scattered
For the iron, owing to its ferrous nature,
Show of flowers for them can not allow.
The same way my morbid soul goes through afflictions,
And behind the well-built bars it prays and whimpers
Since it dreams to fly away out of my bondage
And to soar with a simple song, perhaps not lengthy.

Хризантема
Символ нежности, любви, цветок печали -
Хризантема у решетки расцветала.
Солнце грело, и ветра ее качали,
А земля своими соками питала.
Но рыдает хризантема ночью лунной
И слезинки-лепестки в песок роняет:
Ведь решетка неподвижностью чугунной
Ей мешает - поле маков заслоняет!..
Так душа моя, исполненная боли,
Плачет, молится, томится за решеткой:
Воспарить мечтает, выйти из неволи,
Чтобы песней вознестись - простой, короткой...
