On the earth,
    Cruelly little,
There lived, once, a man.
Little...
And the man had a job.
Little...
And a miserably little post.

And the profit, he had,
Was little...

And once,
 In a nice morning,
There sounded a knock.
Little...
It came
To his little window,
Seemed, a not very big
       War...

He was given a gun.
Little...
He was given high boots.
Little...
He was given a helmet.
Little...
And a little in size
Greatcoat...

...But when he had dropped -
Absurdly,
      Improperly,
In assaulting yellings
Had turned his mouth out,
Firmly, all the earth
Was too short of marble
To hack out the fellow
   In his real height...
