Что так грустно и уныло?
вновь осенняя хандра:
всё привычно, всё постыло,
дотянуть бы до утра.
Полумрак усталой тенью
накрывает с головой;
лишь ночник – полночных бдений
неусыпный часовой.
Где-то ухает ворчливо
над добычею сова.
Так туманно, так дождливо,
горизонт чуть розоват.
Вот рулады муэдзина –
на намаз протяжный зов.
Пять утра – взглянуть на сына,
зрителя счастливых снов.

Why is it so sad and depressing?
that’s another fit of autumn blues:
everything is familiar, everything is boring,
I wish I could hold out until morning.
The languorous gloom shades
mantle to the top of my head;
the night-light being an only Argus
of my midnight vigils.
A murmurous hoot is heard
of an owl over its prey.
It’s so foggy, so wet,
the horizon shows roseate.
Here comes the muezzin’s run –
a wailing call to namaz.
It’s five in the morn – time to peep at my son
deep in happy dreams.
