ВАЛЬСИРУЮЩАЯ МАТИЛЬДА
Примостился бродяга в тени эвкалипта
У озерка со стоячей водой,
Он пел, пока чайник его кипятился:
«Повальсирует кто Матильду со мной?»
Появился барашек, чтоб водицы напиться.
Подпрыгнул бродяга как будто чумной.
Схватил он барашка и в мешочек засунул:
«Повальсируешь ты Матильду со мной!»
Появились пастух и три полицейских,
Один из них молвил: «Мешочек открой.
Куда подевался несчастный барашек?
Повальсируешь ты Матильду со мной!»
Воскликнул бродяга: «Живым я не дамся!»
И в мертвую воду ушел с головой.
С тех пор его призрак поет у озёрка:
«Повальсирует кто Матильду со мной?»

But the swagman he up and jumped into that water-hole
Drowning himself by the Coolibah tree
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by the billabong
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?
