Сокрыв от глаз озёрный плёс,
Повсюду тишь, мирской покой,
И лишь камыш дрожит листвой.
Настала полночь, ни души,
И в этой девственной тиши,
В воде мелькнула будто тень,
Не то коряга, не то пень.
Вдруг в омуте раздался всплеск,
И в лунном свете виден блеск,
Из глубины тотчас возник,
Огромной рыбины плавник.
За ним другой неторопливо,
Затем ещё, ещё, о диво,
Русалок дружный хоровод,
Кружит в сиянии тёмных вод.
Таинством ночи наслаждаясь,
Дорожкой лунной восторгаясь,
Они ныряли, вновь всплывая,
Хвостами рыб напоминая.
Когда же путник запоздалый,
Бредя один, домой усталый,
Заслышав смех, с тропы сойдёт,
Под чары бестий попадёт.
И колдовством их опьянённый,
Нагими девами пленённый,
Он ими будет увлечён,
На смерть в пучине обречён.
