Loud Whisper in the Darkness

Âëàäèìèð Õîðîøåâñêèé
Precendin’ life was funny:
I was a lucky knight
With power and money,
A Man of the ancient Tribe,
Who’s young and very proud,
Who has the coat of arms
(As a rather famous Count) -
Just like a “superstar”!..

There was sore doubt: my Lady -
Her truth didn’t used to keep,
So I had badly headache
To be deprived of sleep…
Then I made some decision:
To catch them both in bed,
‘Cause I had a real reason -
Didn’t wanna be a mad…

I told my wife of goin’
For a battle of young brave knights,
And went away with servants
Before one moonless night;
But then returned with care
Just keepin’ silent hush:
Saw - someone was in there
Who visited my castle…

Loud whisper in the darkness
I very clearly heard:
- My honey, stupid husband
Just went away abroad;
Come on, craft cheat, and love me,
Won’t be my Valentine?..
(Well, I restrained then hardly
To kill my treacherous wife!).

When someone touched her bosom,
Was kissin’ damp red lips
(My God, why can't I shoot them? -
I wanted their decease!),
I gave good threatenin’ shout
And quickly ran towards there,
Was ready to blunt bound
On a stranger, I can swear!

It was my tall mean cousin -
He took out his short sword
And hit me (devil’s brother!),
Not sayin’ any word;
He minced me in rage trouble
With no drop of regret -
There was a bloody sabbath
In a castle of County Kent!..
----------------------------------
And now I live in Russia
(It is my second life),
With sugar-babe Natasha
And very satisfied;
I perfectly remember
All those “ancient deals” -
My very sad surrender,
Which makes me not too pleased.

I’m careful and jealous,
Suspicious, proud still,
And will be such forever,
Because I often feel
Like a wild and crazy tiger,
Who hate all “happy-ends”,
When she looks very kindly
At my “too faithful” friends!..
