You were giving me roses, roses scenting like wormwood,
Knew my poems by heart, always moving your lips,
Disappearing quickly, never laying in ambush,
Never silently breathing when I answered the phone.
We were hiding in cabs of indifferent drivers,
On a highway at midnight, in the nevermore land.
While your whiskey was cold, like a smouldering fire,
You were quietly touching my feverish hand.
Then the summer began, with goodbyes and the knowledge
That we are of one blood, of the heavenly brand.
I recall your torn jeans and Mongolian cheekbones,
Oh, my secret and sweetheart in the nevermore land.
